Heather and Granite, Washington State
This photo has an interesting story behind it. Don Mank and I were planning to climb the North Buttress of Bear Mountain, a peak in northern Washington very close to the Canadian Border. The bushwhack approach to this peak was so horrible that we become separated but after many hours I found myself at our agreed upon bivuoac spot. I settled in and waited for Don to show up.

I waited all that evening and in the morning Don had still not appeared. I walked up Bear Mountain the easy way, took this photo, and then gave up and bushwhacked out to the car. There was Don waiting for me, he had bailed the first day finding the bushwhacking and bugs too much to bear. The worst thing was that the weather was flawless, but at least I came away with this photo.
