Longs Peak Conditions

This page shows photos from various sources of this ski descent route over several different years. If you have photos of the Homestretch or other areas of the route taken in winter or spring, please send them to gibell@comcast.net to have them included on this page.

These Homestretch photos are all taken looking about the same direction, but from different locations. My right photo is the closest up view, with John's and Steve's photos from progressively farther away. The rocks in the foreground of the right two photos are not the same. The rock in the foreground of the right photo is in about the middle of John's middle photo.

Lower Keplingers in good. 5/24/2003

In is interesting that in 2001 the upper part of this route appears much better covered than in 2003 but the lower portion of Keplingers shows the opposite. Steve's photos were taken 4 weeks earlier in the year, but still it shows coverage varies a lot from year to year.

Longs from the summit of Apache Peak on 6/6/2004 (with our 2003 descent route marked)

The above photo, taken in 2004, shows much less coverage than during our ski descent. There is almost no snow below the base of the Keplinger's Couloir. Note also the lack of snow in Dragon's Egg Couloir on Mt. Meeker.
